3 1/8" Dual Ultrasonic Noise Tool

The Dual Ultrasonic Noise Tool utilizes two piezoelectric ultrasonic transducers in air-drilled wells, to detect and respond to high frequency,turbulent flow noise generated by gas through a small orifice such as a fracture.

This tool should not be confused with the common terminology of “noise tools”. The normal noise tool uses frequency cutoffs far below those that the Dual Ultrasonic tool measures.

The use of dual detectors spaced 4 ft. apart allows the operator to distinguish between valid indications of gas entry and the occasional spurious “road noise” peaks. The tool also contains an optional external temperature probe to measure borehole temperature.

The detector signals are sent up as DC voltage levels on separate lines or can be transmitted on a single line using Probe PTX digital telemetry. The tool is designed to operate with most other open-hole tools in a stacked configuration.
