The PTBHC Slim Hole Density Tool utilizes a pad mounted gamma source and dual scintillation detectors with appropriate source-to-detector spacing to produce a bulk density measurement for automatic compensation of mudcake and borehole irregularities. An integral calliper measurement is made by sensing the distance from the pad section to the back-up arm, and is simultaneously transmitted to the surface with count rates from both pad-mounted detectors. The mechanical section of the tool is actuated by a DC motor from the surface system, independent of all other electronics, and may be opened or closed at any time. The mechanical section is available with a 1:1 linkage for a centralized tool body, or a 10:1 linkage to offset the tool body to the side of the borehole. An all line feed-thru is available for coupling with other tools in the open-hole tool stack. Electronics for efficient operation of the detectors are located in the pad section.
