thru casing evaluation
Driven by the need to maximize the potential of assets, oil and gas companies often wish to determine or re-evaluate matrix and fluid properties behind existing casing.
Has the dynamic environment around the wellbore changed since the well was drilled and cased?
Have hydrocarbons migrated from other areas?
How can we delineate horizons and confirm marker bed depths from offset wells?
The answer to these questions and more there are a variety of tools that can be used to evaluate matrix and fluid properties through the casing strings.
The radial bond tool can be used to assess the integrity of the cement bond, to detect any channeling and even to determine the extent of compaction around the casing in non-cemented areas. Compensated neutron tools can be used together with BHC sonic tools to estimate porosity through casing and determine the relative contribution of water, oil and gas to the pore space. When combined with gamma ray and spectral gamma ray tools, litho-logical properties can be inferred and subsurface horizons can be readily identified and accurately correlated with horizons and marker beds in offset wells.
