History and Timeline

Driven By Success

Dating back to 1928 when we first started supplying Kuster® mechanical gauges to the industry, Probe was later established in 1994 as a technology company specializing in the design of downhole logging tools initially targeted at the North American market. Probe’s patented Radii® gained market acclaim and positioned the Company as the industry’s leading independent supplier and expert in cement bond and acoustic logging technology.

Signal Hill, California where Probe’s Long Beach Technology Center began as Kuster Company in 1928.

In 1994, the current Probe was established in Fort Worth, Texas by a group of ex-Gearhart engineers as a technology company specializing in the design of downhole logging tools initially targeted at the North American market.

Engineering excellence, innovation and customer focus run deep throughout Probe. In our efforts to remain aligned with our customers’ needs, we typically reinvest most of our profits in developing new products and sustaining engineering.

Our purpose is to offer an ever-expanding range of intelligent solutions. We achieve this by developing new products, and by continuously improving existing products, with the most reliable technology.

In 2008, Probe sought external growth capital investment to further support our commitment to expand our core cased hole logging business into complementary product lines and to enable international market entry.

Between 2009 and 2017, Probe entered an active inorganic growth period, acquiring various businesses in the USA, Europe and Canada.

Initially, Kuster®, Sentergy, AKS, Sensor Developments, and Hunter Well Science, all continued to trade with their original entity names. Since 2018, through a concerted focus on improving efficiencies and simplifying the way we do business with our customers, we have successfully integrated all businesses under one culture, one name, one company: Probe.
